Wayne Carlson dies suddenly

We have received this sad news from the Rev. Gina Volpe, Interim Pastor of Holy Family Episcopal Church in south suburban Park Forest, IL.  "It is with great sadness that I share the news of the death of The Rev. Dr. Wayne Carlson ('71, '99). Fr. Carlson, retired 2nd rector of Church of the Holy Family, died suddenly yesterday morning (Friday) . I ask you to keep his family and friends as well as the family at Church of the Holy Family in your prayers." 


Rest Eternal grant to him O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all of the faithfully departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

 

 

 

Elizabeth Molitors to Annunciation of Our Lady

 

 

The Rev. Elizabeth Molitors ('09) has been called to be Rector of Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church in Gurnee.  Elizabeth formerly served as Associate Rector at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Glen Ellyn.  She celebrated the Annunciation with her new congregation on her first Sunday on March 17.  Elizabeth lives in Wheaton with her daughter, Emily Bergman, a high school senior who will begin working on her undergraduate degree in the fall. She is originally from Ohio, where she graduated from Miami University with a BA and later earned her MBA from DePaul University in Chicago.  Her business career includes posiltions in sales, project management and business analysis at Baxter and Hewitt. 

 

The Rev Wayne Johnson

We have received news of the death of the Rev. Wayne L. Johnson (BD '45), who died January 2, 2013 at the age of 93 in Rock Island IL.  Along with serving parishes in the Dioceses of Springfield, Quincy and Chicago, he served as a Trustee of Seabury Western 1965-1981 and was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1971.  His funeral was Jan. 5 at Trinity Anglican Church in Rock Island. 

Mark Bourlakas Bishop-elect of SW Va

   The Very Rev. Mark Bourlakas ('97), Dean of Christ Church Cathedral in Louisville, KY, has been elected as the sixth bishop of Southwest Virginia.   He was selected in voting Saturday in Roanoke. He will succeed Bishop Neff Powell, who is stepping down in July after serving for 17 years.  Congratulations to the Bishop-Elect ! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Grant to St John's enables Wagner Sherer to go on sabbatical

St. John’s Episcopal Church in Chicago has received a grant of $35,600 to enable its rector, The Rev. Kara Wagner Sherer ('03), to participate in the 2012 National Clergy Renewal Program funded by the Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. It is one of 147 congregations across the country that will support their ministers in the program, which allows pastors to step back from their busy lives and renew their spirits for the benefit of their ongoing ministries.  During the May-August Sabbatical, she will be focusing on creative renewal activities, both alone and with her family. Wagner Sherer will go on a month long retreat at the Society of St. John the Evangelist (an Episcopal Monastic community in Cambridge, MA), study creative writing at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, and with her family attend cultural programming in Chautauqua, NY, and visit a Benedictine convent in France.


Canon Robert Krogman has died

 

 

We've received word from the Rev. Dave Hedges ('05) of the death of the Rev. Canon Robert Krogman ('55).   In a Facebook post, Dave noted:
